Zitat von Jonric/IGN:
To start with an overview of Armed Assault, what kind of game is it, and what types of gameplay experience will it provide?
Screens vom Interview-2
Paul R. Statham: Armed Assault is a first- or third-person tactical, strategic, military shooter with large elements of realism and simulation. It features a blend of large-scale military conflict spread over large areas alongside more in your face closed quarters battles.

Northern forces attack so swiftly and indiscriminately that his only option is to join in the defense of Sahrani; you're forced to fight to save your own life, not just the freedom and lives of the native people.

The player will find himself thrust in the midst of an engaging, expanding storyline, fighting against smart, aggressive enemies who will continually provide a challenge over a massive landscape - approximately 250 square miles. Armed Assault also features extensive multiplayer with something to offer all fans of online shooters, whether they like slow, long realistic conflicts or fast, aggressive frag fests.

Zitat von Jonric/IGN:
Given that action titles, even tactical ones, can differ quite significantly, what will set your game apart from the rest, including Operation Flashpoint?

Paul R. Statham: Armed Assault features a number of areas that move the game beyond the average arcade shooter. Of course, the vast landscapes, highly intelligent AI opponents, dozens of usable weapons and vehicles are the most obvious factors, but looking beyond that, there is a depth to Armed Assault which is really unsurpassed in any game:

Ambient world: Trees and vegetation gently sway in the wind, or are buffered about by landing helicopters. Birds and insects fly around, movement in your periphery isn't necessarily an enemy, or maybe it is... be alert and vigilant at all times.

Multiple gunners: Utilize the multiple gunner positions on tanks and helicopters to rain death on your enemies.

Ballistic kinetic energy: Bullet accuracy and damage are dependent on a number of factors such as wind resistance and distance to the target.

Simulated recoil system: No two guns are the same, so firing them shouldn't feel the same; Armed Assault features fully simulated weapon recoil.

HDR lighting effects: One example of its practical implementation is that ambushing an enemy with the sun in your eyes leaves you at a disadvantage because you cannot see as well as when the sun is behind you. Think smart, fight better.

Real constellations and tides: Armed Assault's great depth even includes such features as fully simulated star maps. Navigate at night by following the stars. Lunar cycles and tides are also fully simulated.

Those are just some of the numerous features that add immense depth to Armed Assault and its gameplay.

Zitat von Jonric/IGN:
What's the setting in which the game takes place? Is it real or fictional? And what kind of campaign structure can we expect?

Paul R. Statham: Armed Assault is set on a fictional island called Sahrani in the Atlantic Ocean. It's set during modern times, and the basic story and events aren't too far outside the realm of possibility. Certainly, the events, plot and storyline are based on real world headlines, events and politics.

The campaign of Armed Assault consists of 12 branching, multiple objective missions, with each serving to progress the storyline.

Zitat von Jonric/IGN:
With respect to Armed Assault's basic premise and story, what's the situation that exists when play begins?

Paul R. Statham: The basic premise of the story is that the player is part of a small American contingent sent to Southern Sahrani to help train the troops of this pro-American democracy, which is based around a monarchy friendly to the West. Being rich in oil, the country serves as a useful pawn in the politics of that part of the world. The north is a separate Communist country, opposite to South Sahrani in almost every way, certainly politically and pragmatically.

North Sahrani learns that the American presence is really no more than a token gesture by the American government. It further learns that the American troops have finished their deployment and are in the midst of leaving to return to home. During this period of false security within the minds of their southern neighbours, the government of the north takes the opportunity to invade.

The player's character belongs to one of the few American squads left on the island. Northern forces attack so swiftly and indiscriminately that his only option is to join in the defense of Sahrani; you're forced to fight to save your own life, not just the freedom and lives of the native people.
